Youth Pastor

REPORTS TO: Executive Pastor to the Lead Pastor


POSITION STATUS: Permanent Full-Time (40hrs/week)


POSITION PURPOSE:


The Youth Pastor plays a vital role in nurturing the spiritual, emotional, and relational well-being of the next generation. While this position provides leadership and oversight to both youth (Grades 7-12) and young adult (ages 18-25) ministries, the primary focus and responsibility is youth ministry. The pastor serves as a shepherd, discipler, and visionary, guiding students through formative years while creating pathways to remain rooted and engaged in the life of the church. This includes creating and leading environments where students encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, and experience authentic Christian community. The role also includes supporting and equipping volunteer leaders to walk alongside young adults as they navigate early adulthood and faith formation. This position requires a spiritually mature, relationally driven leader who is passionate about raising up the next generation of Jesus-followers. 


KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:


  • VISION & MINISTRY LEADERSHIP  
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and report on a clear vision and strategy for those within the age demographic of this ministry.  
  • Align all youth and young adult programming with the overall mission and discipleship pathway of the church. 
  • Cultivate a Christ-centred culture where students and young adults are equipped to follow Jesus, live with purpose, and engage in the life of the church. 
  • PROGRAM OVERSIGHT & EVENTS 
  • Provide leadership and oversight for regular programs and special events, including: 
  • Sunday Jr. High Youth Church 
  • Tuesday Youth Church  
  • Friday Night Events 
  • Plan and lead mission opportunities, retreats, and service initiatives that foster spiritual growth, community, and Kingdom impact. 
  • DISCIPLESHIP & LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT 
  • Foster intentional discipleship environments through teaching, small groups, mentoring relationships, and student leadership opportunities. 
  • Develop and support youth leadership teams and serve teams, empowering students to lead and serve in meaningful ways. 
  • Provide oversight and development for volunteer leaders in both youth and young adult ministries, creating a healthy, equipped, and multiplying team. 
  • PASTORAL CARE & RELATIONAL MINISTRY  
  • Offer Christ-centred pastoral care to students, young adults, parents, and volunteer leaders. 
  • Walk with individuals and families through life transitions, personal challenges, and spiritual milestones. 
  • Engage relationally and prayerfully in the lives of students, building trust and encouraging spiritual growth.  
  • PARENT & FAMILY ENGAGEMENT 
  • Build strong relationships with parents through intentional communication, pastoral support, and programming that equips them in their role as spiritual influencers. 
  • Serve as a bridge between the church and families, providing resources and partnership in discipleship. 
  • COMMUNICATIONS & ONLINE PRESENCE  
  • Maintain an engaging and up-to-date social media presence for the youth ministry. 
  • Use digital tools to inform, inspire, and connect students, parents, and leaders with the life of the ministry. 
  • COLLABORATION & BROADER CHURCH INVOLVEMENT  
  • Partner with other ministry areas and church staff to ensure youth and young adults are integrated into the broader church community. 
  • Participate in city-wide youth ministerial networks and inter-church events, including the Disturbing The Peace (DtP) Youth Conference and similar initiatives. 
  • Carry out other pastoral duties as needed, including preaching, baptisms, and church-wide initiatives. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possesses recognized spiritual gifts in shepherding, teaching, and leadership, demonstrated through effective ministry to youth and young adults and the development of healthy ministry teams. 
  • Has meaningful pastoral ministry experience with youth and/or young adults, rooted in sound biblical knowledge and a deep commitment to The Alliance Canada’s Statement of Faith and Call to Excellence. 
  • Thrives in dynamic, high-energy ministry settings, showing agility and spiritual maturity in responding to real-time needs and cultural challenges relevant to younger generations. 
  • Proven ability to navigate and resolve conflict with grace across generational lines, especially with students, parents, and volunteer leaders. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect authentically with teenagers, young adults, parents, and ministry peers. 
  • Leads with relational warmth, spiritual maturity, and a Christ-like presence that is approachable, trustworthy, and rooted in prayer. 
  • Demonstrates a track record of recruiting, equipping, and empowering leaders, creating a multiplying culture of discipleship and service. 
  • Committed to ongoing personal, spiritual, and professional development as a lifelong learner and ministry practitioner. 
  • Eligible for accreditation with the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination in Canada.  
  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada before being hired.

  • Self-motivated and proactive, demonstrating initiative and discernment in anticipating ministry needs and adapting strategies accordingly. 
  • Experienced in identifying and developing young leaders, and creating spaces that foster genuine belonging, mentorship, and discipleship. 
  • Brings recent involvement in youth or young adult small group ministry, whether as a participant or leader. 
  • Capable of managing priorities and collaborating well in a team-based, multi-staff church environment. 
  • Outgoing and relational, thriving in a ministry that requires high relational investment and frequent engagement with students, parents, and volunteers.
